Winter Fashion Shoot 2012

I am so excited about this photo shoot, it was so fun!I had a opportunity to see the model before the shoot and her hair was very different. When I saw her the day of the shoot I just fell in love with her new look! The colors and hairstyle is amazing! The lady who did this magical transformation Is hairstylist & makeup artist Jeaannie Jackman. ( I am so in awe!) The wonderful clothes are from Eclectic Attic located in Plymouth Michigan and the beautiful handmade jewelry is by Jody Collet . The cute model is Kristi Byrnes, who was such a trooper in the cold!

Valentine's Day ~Pretty in Pink~2012

Over the summer I photographed a lady and her family. This lady, my new friend Jeannie Jachman is a awesome hairdresser and right away we formed a friendship. This past Sunday I had the pleasure to photograph a very brave sole, one of Jeannie's clients Lana! Not only did Lana allow Jeannie to cut off all her hair, die it blond and pink but Lana was brave enough to jump in fount of my camera sporting her "new do" for a full two hour shoot! Although a tad nervous our newly done up model Lana did a wonderful job!

Last Year I ran a little mini class at my Friend's studio. I placed a few up from last year for some fun diy inspiration. (photo's of children curtsy of Melany Hallgren Photography)

The snow globs are 40% water 60% corn syrup~and what ever you want to place in to them. To keep the photos safe, use clear contact paper~make sure there is a small lip all around you photo, this will help seal it and protect id from the water. You also want to have something to weigh the photo down or it will spin all over when you shake it.

The Photo Coaster are made with vinyl. Place your photo in between two pieces of clear vinyl and sew together. You can cut the access vinyl away when your done sewing. You can use different color thread for some fun.

Sometimes the last thing I want to do after editing photos all day is to be on the computer any longer than I have to! That means I do not post as much as I would like. ( a girls gotta sleep!) I have a few shoots that were so awesome and perfect this year that I can't not share them...one of my favorite places to shoot in Michigan is Cranbrook House and Gardens. The 40 acre Garden is home to a wonderful Museum and Art School. It is beautiful and one of my all time favorite places to shoot. It's magical and makes you really feel that you are truly in a secret garden!

I had the wonderful honor to photography Amber and Garrett's wedding. While I was photographing, them and there family I was in photographer mode. I had a neat opportunity to shoot in Parker Mill Park in Ann Arbor, It was an accident I found it online and took a leap of faith that it was going to be a scenic place to shoot. Not only is it a beautiful place but it was perfect for the shoot with Lydia and her son soon to be turning 1 years old. Not only did the shoot turn out wonderful, but it was so sweet to see how much she loved her son. Lydia keep kissing and hugging him, she didn't have to say it, but I could tell by her expressions that he was the most beautiful thing in her life. I love this pictures because they capture exactly what I wanted them to, you can truly see how much this little guy is adored!

There is the most darling little coffee house in Plymouth Michigan called The Plymouth Coffee Bean Co. It's an old house converted in to a Coffee House. Each room is just adorable with different couches, chairs and furniture,tables everywhere! You can spread out and do lot's of computer work ( like editing photos) or home work, I saw a lot of students there doing just that, all while drinking a great cop of coffee. It's so artsy and just fun. There is an Art and Event's section so I am dying to go one night to listen to some great local band!!!! As soon as I stepped in the door I knew I wanted to do a photo shoot there and I knew the perfect person to do it!!! I called The lovely Susanna Tipett ( who is a student and part time model) and knew her eclectic flare would fit the shoot perfect!!!! We had a lot of fun and I have so many great shots....too many to have just one favorite!!!!

I have to say when I finished the shoot I finished off about 6 cups of coffee!!! ( had the jitters, but just could not resist!!!)

I had a great 40th Birthday...very low key and family that I haven't seen in a few years came for a visit, which made the day extra special!!! I received two vintage cameras from Emil and Ethan. Emil gave me an extra little surprise . I was telling him how I had a Toy Snappy Shots Camera when I was little. It's a toy camera that developed fake "Polaroid like" pictures. It was the cutest thing!!! Emil found one on eBay...I was very geeked!

I was going to use this photo for something different, promoting spring ideas in my shop! As I watched the news the last few days my heart just went out to Japan.Watching devastation on the news is so surreal! My Family just saw over the weekend Battle Los Angeles and it's so amazing how real everything looked in this movie. So watching trucks floating by in Japan is horrible yes, but it wasn't the site that really got to me. The footage of this boat full of babies is kind of what hit me hard. One lady was in the middle the rest were babies, a lot of babies, all had to be under three. My first thought was " Wow!" " How is this lady is handling all these babies on this small boat!" Then I started thinking, about their families and where were the mom's... why were all these babies in this one boat together and what if all there families were dead? So I'm starting with this particular print of mine here, and I will add a few more of my items to the cause.

(rubber ducks don't float?) Valentine's Day dinner for two.

Usually, Valentine's day is pretty much about my kids. Coordinating the class party's, decorating their Valentine boxes, filling out Valentine's Day cards and lot's of candy. It was all kid oriented when they would come home from school as well. Our Mid-Winter break for school always falls around the 14th of February, so we would have a little American Girl Valentine Parties for my daughter and her friends or special cake and a movie night for the boys... you name it! This year our two oldest are away at school and our youngest actually was away as well. ( school function) This would be the first time in a while that my husband and I would have A Valentine's Day to ourselves. I knew right away I wanted to make a nice dinner, but I also thought that this would be a neat opportunity to use photos once again as decorations. When it comes to photos I am always trying to think outside the box and love using them when ever I can! So with out going overboard because I did cook, I dressed up our dinning room table for our romantic dinner for two. First, I took photos that my friend Melany Hallgren took of my husband and I over the summer.Using photoshop I turned them all in to black and white photos, lightened the exposure and added text. After printing and cutting them out, I placed them in little frogs that you can purchase at your local craft store and spreed them out on our dinning room table.
I also had these cute rubber ducks that I really wanted to use in a bowl of water, I thought it would be adorable to have them floating but I learned quickly that rubber ducks don't float!!!
No problem, I found the solution right away. I placed my ducks on top of a plate and then put the plate in the water. Now with my ducks and photos all in a row I added a few extra touches ( glitter and hearts of course) and ta da a cute little table ready for dinner.

This is a great idea for any party, you can really add more to your table if you would like ( this was low key) Awesome for weddings and baby-showers!!!! I can totally see placing copies of the ultrasound in frogs and doing something really cute with that, or...have the bride and groom's engagement photos placed in them, how darn cute would that be! Next time I think I will add glitter to the actual photos. :)

I'm really itching for warm weather. I love taking pictures outside. Even though snow is cool, taking pictures in -9 below is not my cup of tea. I have been goofing around with old photos in Photoshop trying to get some "New Life" out of a few old ones...I'm pretty happy with the results!!! I'm also excited to say that I am now an official member of fpoe Female Photographers of etsy. There are a lot of great Female Photographers out there. Now I am excited and inspired!!!

Wow...it is super cold. I do believe it is a -8 at the moment. Although I love taking photographs in the snow, I really do not want to get out of my slippers at the moment. ( I also have three sweaters on, hot tea by my side and a heating pad on my lap!) So what's a photographer to do. It's cold and a tad slow this time of year, but I am itching for some photographic inspiration!!! Here are a few things I found around my house, shot with my trusty D200 and played with in Photoshop!!! I'm amazed how a photograph can change something that you look at every day. So play around with items in your house, you may be surprised with a unexpected work of art!
PS. The phone does work, I love it!!!

Cute Photo Display Ideas

As a photographer, I am always trying to find clever ways to display my photos. Here are a few I had over the holiday's I would love to share...having a cute little photo display around your house is fun and simple to do. This is one of those ways you can think outside the box with some neat ideas.

These are called "Frogs" There used for flower arrangements and you can purchase them your local craft store. I love these because I can use them for business cards or in this case display a few of my wallet sized photos around the house.

I love this little yellow car! There is something about it that is just so adorable. This car usually sits on my desk, but sometimes I move it to a coffee table and just pop a little photo in it. I wish I had more in different colors, but this was the only one I found. ( I'm still looking though.)

I love little Cake Stands, this on has a "frog and photo" under the glass dome Fun, quick and simple!
Sprinkle some glitter or add some glass hearts for a different effect.

Heres a helping hand...and it moves!

Here is a Hand Stand I found while on vacation. I't was a tad pricey, but I love it and use it all the time!

I had beads in these jars and decided to use them for a photos instead. I wanted something quick, so I sprinkled a little fake snow in the bottom and placed a photo inside, the snow kept the photo in place and gave it a cute Christmas feel for the holidays.

Oh, Moo Cards, I do love you!!! And what a cute way to display them! I have seen these stands all over little stores in the Metro Detroit Area, this one I found at Bohemian Home in Plymouth, Michigan.These are not made specifically for Moo Cards, This is just one way I use them. ( Wow! those kids are darn cute!)

These little Easel Stands I found at my local craft store, I painted this one black. I love these little stands and use them for lost of little display purposes. They come in a light wood color, which I like because I am the queen of spray paint, and I love making these stands multiple colors! What a cute idea for a wedding!

5x7 Film Holder... A long, long, long time ago I worked for a car photographer who had his own E6 lab. he let me have a few of these 5x7 film holders that were broken.For a while they sat in a box till I realized I could place a normal photo in them and display them like a frame. Purchased new they are very pricy, but you could find used ones on ebay. What once was for developing slide film now houses two cute photos of me and my hubby. ( Sweet love! )

What I love about Christmas

There are so many thing I love about Christmas, non of them involves presents! For one my kids have two weeks off of school, I should say my son because my two oldest are now home for a month. This means movie night's with pop corn and hot chocolate, playing rock band and staying up an extra 20 minutes to finish a favorite book. I love that every Christmas I pull out my Snoopy collection and my Charlie Brown Christmas Music. I get goose bumps pulling each Snoopy out and remembering how much I loved him when I was little. My family and I see friends more, reminisce and catch up on kids, events or loved ones that have gone before us. I love Christmas lights and Nostalgic Holiday Decorations... common, everyone loves a plastic glowing Santa sitting by the front door!! Building snow men, going sledding, sitting by the fire,
that is what Christmas is about. My kids hardly ever remember their gifts from year to year, but they remember how many time we watched "It's a Wonderful Life" or how many times I made them watch "the Sound of Music." Cookies that we burned one year and made all pink another. Pulling out Christmas ornaments that the kids made 15 years ago...all my favorites!!! My most favorite thing is being so grateful that I receive the gift every day of waking up next to the person a so adore, that my kids are happy and healthy and that life is truly wonderful no mater what challenges come our way. My kids wont remember all the details of this Christmas, I just hope they will always remember and truly feel how much they are loved!

I have a fun little collaboration with my friend Melany Hallgren from Melany Hallgren Photography. A very cute workshop for all to participate in.
I don't know about you, but I love making gifts for people, so here is a great opportunity to take a two in one class. You can create three vinyl photo coasters and one photo snow globe!!!

A Most Unusual Request!

I had the most unusual request...something I really never made before and I think it turned out OK... considering this was my first time making any kind of items with food! The owner of Eclectic Attic Asked me to create a Ginger Bread hose for a competition they were having with other stores in the Downtown Plymouth area. Well at first I said yes right away...because how hard could a little ginger bread house be, especially if you cheat and use a kit lol! But one thing led to another and I soon realized that not only that this was a "big deal" but I had the brilliant idea to do something totally not "gingerbread like." Well It's different...and very Marie Antoinette...because that is what I wanted, and very sweet...cuz it's a lot of icing!!! I realized in this experience that icing slides off of pretty much everything. Also my big, wonderful Marie Antoinette cotton candy hair...became to stiff and hard and fell of her head the night before I had to deliver it of course!!! So one quick "wig change" to frosting and her head was saved!!! ( for the moment) It was a neat experience and something I never thought I could do! ( not sure I would again!!! lol!!)

I had the wonderful opportunity to be the photographer for The Eclectic Attic Fall Winter 2010 Photo Shoot. A very fun and busy say, the hair and makeup artist were great, and the models although very cold for most of the day were quiet the troopers and looked warm and happy at least in the pictures!

Don't get me wrong, I love fall, I really do! This just feels so deja vu, I feel like I just blogged about pumpkins and fall colors just a few weeks ago, yikes!! Where did the year go? Anyway we caught up with friends who because of our busy "kids" lives finally had an opportunity to do something together...of course it was kid oriented...wouldn't have it any other way! Oh by the way...isn't Michigan beautiful,!!!

New Fall Items from SEEDS Studio 2010 POLAROID!!!!!!!

I'm excited to introduce some new items to "SEEDS Studio" I have been obsessed with polaroids for a very long time and have finally come up with a cutesy idea of "Polaroid" fun items for you to wear or for you to use...like my "Polaroid Coasters" I also have Polaroid Pin Backs, Magnets, Bookmarks and Pendants. All cute little mini Polaroids with my photography on them. All the "Mini Polaroids" are covered in resin
( very difficult to do lol!) I just love the effect when done. My Polaroid Coasters have lot's of different photos on them "double sided" and just adorable on a coffee table. I should have these up on my etsy soon, so keep a look out! :)
I also have new smaller custom photo pendants now covered in resin....So darn adorable! And last but not least some new photography and of corse the new photos will come in pendant size and mini polaroid size as well.

When I do art shows, I like people to feel that they are in a little mini store. I love when I get "ohh's and ahh's." The... "do you own a store, where can I find your studio and do you sell in other places"
I try my best to make it look as "cute as possible" but of course a business like feel to it as well.
Sometimes I bring more displays or items then usual, like in this case here with my photos above.
( i have a lot of stuff!!)
Sometimes I keep it a tad more simple especially if I am sharing with my friend Jill from
Barrel of Monkeys.etsy.com we do a lot of shows together. This one was by my self, it was a cold windy day, but as you can see from the photos I had my helper ( he was trying to warm up!!!!)

DIY Street Fair 2010

Well I accidentally deleted my pics from this weekends Diy Street Fair. Crystal from Flint Handmade on the other hand did a wonderful job taking tuns of pictures and posting them on the Flint Handmade blog, so please check out The Flint Handmade blog. The Diy Street Fair was awesome, a littl buggy for a good four hours, but that didn't keep shoppers away!!! I look forward to the event next Year. On a different not I bought a very cute skirt from OuterSpaceways Inc @ CremeBruleeClothing and a very cute apron from an etsy seller, unfortunatly I can not read her handwritting which is too bad, because I would love to send a link to her such a bummer, it's so darn cute. If I find out who she is I will definatly link her site!

Pure Michigan

We went "rustic" camping up north this past weekend. I have lived in many places in my life. St. Louis, Iowa, Chicago, Colorado, Germany, but out of all those places I have to say that Michigan Is one of the most beautiful places I have ever seen. Sure we have crazy weather, but we have such a beautiful state. I miss Chicago for it's downtown, Colorado for it's mountains, Germany for it's history and beautiful castles, but Michigan is gold, it really is. I could not think of a better place to raise kids. So many friendly people live in Michigan, I can go on with so many stories of helpful neighbors, kind people, helpful strangers!!! Yes the economy is struggling, and unfortunately Detroit has a long way to go, but I can not tell you of a state that can go from the wonders of urban life to the beauty of nature with in minutes of each other. When we camp or visit other parts of Michigan, I feel like I am in another world sometimes...it's pure beauty always takes my breath away!!!

I find the older I get the more I here my self say how much little time I feel I have or just simple how time seems to fly by. I am still in denial that it is September, but here it is already the 9th. I hate the feeling of "limited time" and am conflicted with how slow my etsy is and how much I have to "mass produce" in a quick and timely fashion for my next up coming art shows. Old Barns

Ok, had a great time taking pictures of this beautiful (aspiring) model. We went to this old abandoned barn and Wow, what a great site. There were so many neat spot's to take photos. I was a tad nervous because there were a lot of places that I was worried about walking, but it was well worth it...we were extremely careful and so glad of the outcome! These are great! Of course Alex made the photo shoot very easy!

I wanted to take photos of my friends son's on the "tracks" and being that this was my third time doing this track shoot I should have know better then to wear flip flops!!! The tracks we were at this time had "killer weeds" all over them and something that looked very close to poison ivy ( oh yea!!!) So I was a bit panicked since both boys had sandals on them as well...but once again that mommy thing kicks in where I was paying so much attention to where they were standing that it wasn't till I went home to see my three little piggies on my foot two sizes to big! lol! My piggies survived and I got great shots of them as well...no other piggies were harmed in this photo shoot! :)

A busy short summer.

Well the last few weekends were fun! and went by so fast...summer feels like it is over to me already! So much to squeeze in to this summer and so little time to do it. We had a neat opportunity to go to the Howell balloon festival, which was very cool. I have never seen a Balloon up close let alone be blown up before your eyes and drift away. I was geeked to get some photos of them floating away. There was a carnival as well so of corse we had to have our funnel cakes and cotton candy!!! This past weekend we went to Cedar Point
( like Six Flags for those of you who are not familiar)Once again I realize just how old I am getting, what I could ride on two years ago just about killed me this time around! lol! After the fourth roller coaster I was done, but I carried on and went on a total of ten ( yea me!) It was a fun time. I also squeezed a photo shoot of my beat friends boys in, I'm geeked because I love how the pictures turned out and it was a lot of fun. When people know you they are more comfortable to "trust your judgment and creative ideas" 800 pictures and two hours later we got some really cool shots! Now for anyone who knows me well knows I am addicted to two things, Starbucks Coffee and Photoshop actions..I always have to alter!!!

It rained most of the day, It was difficult to take nice photo's, by the time the ceremony was over the sun came out but so did the crowd. Schools were coming and going so I was getting bumped quiet a bit.(lol) It really was a nice day but busy, E's birthday was the 6th as well. He was happy for his brother but bummed he had to sit for three hours during his big day! ( hew was a good boy!) I'm excited for Derek as well as Sam and to see where life takes them. It's a new chapter in life, having both kids off to college in the fall. I'm full of so many different emotions!!!But for now I say Cheers...to a new chapter in our lives and new adventures for my kids!!!

Mothers Day 2010

Out of all the funny photos I took on Mothers Day, this one stands out the most. Not because I like the Beetles ( that is what I had in mind when I took the photo) what stands out in this photo is my kids walking! This Mothers Day I realized that I will not have many more like this. That in just a few years my two oldest will be calling me from some distant location to say Happy Mothers Day. They will be off on there own, doing there own thing living there own lives. As I took this pictures I yelled out to them " go stand on the path and walk across the street." And many times with many situations I ask myself "did I send them on the right path...did I make the right decisions?" I like this picture! It's not my best and not my favorite because of the look and surroundings...It's my favorite because they are doing exactly what they are supposed to be doing in life. I can suggest paths for them, but each of them will chose there own. I will have two off to college and one not lagging far behind. As they crossed the street three, four times goofing and giggling I was trying hard not to show my tears. I was happy for the day, happy for the moment, happy we were together!

The Alice in Wonderland doll that I would love to have is $500...it is truly beautiful and hopefully one day I may buy her. As for now I grabbed this cutie from the book store...she was a little more then I wanted to pay, but she fits in my altered art doll house ( that I have not finished and has been sitting under my art table for two years..yikes!!) So now that I have a "renter" she will need a home. I 'm excited to start the house...but wait, wasn't I supposed to try to start a book first?

I am so excited to announce the Grand Opening Of Blue House Ann Arbor. It is a Handmade Studio where you can take classes or in my case teach classes ( actually I probably will be doing both). The neat thing about this art studio opening is that the cute little place is just inviting. of course the owner Siobhan Lyle has a lot to do with that. She is just very sweet and down to earth ( my kind of gal!!) There is a small retail shop located in the frount of the studio.... so if you want some good old instant gratification you may have the pleasure of shopping some of my favorite artist like Slow Gin Fizz and Kate Kehoe just to name a few. We also have some of the gals from Handmade Detroit and a tone of M.I.C.E. members not only selling their lovely items now at Blue House but many will be selling their items for the Grand Opening on March 20th. I'm excited to meat MICE members I have not had the pleasure of meeting yet...seeing old faces and making new friends. Speaking of making new friends..these lovely photos were taking by the talented Monet Tiedemann

I am to the point where I think I am in love! In love again for the first time in many years! Seeing things in a new light and feeling oh so excited about it. This is no ordinary love, because of course it is not with a person! It is with my camera, and for the first time in years I feel excited again to take pictures. What brought me back from the grave? Well for starters my daughters senior pictures. That was so much fun taking them that I was excited...from there I have been taking more photos artistically this year then in many years before ( and folks I went to school for photography!!!) The second thing that got me so excited is my infatuation for Lomography! I am just starting to dabble in it a bit and only own a simple HOLGA, but Lomography is so stunning and artistic, there is so much about it that makes a photograph come alive. Something about that TTV look seams so raw and beautiful! It's fun and everywhere. Before My Daughter went back to school she a tad bit reluctant, agreed to a little photo shoot out side...mind you it's a whopping 28 outside. On top of this the salvation army skirt I grabbed very hastily said size 7. What I didn't realize that it was a size 7 girls and was accidently in the woman's section. So with a pair of shorts to cover her rear we cut and safety pined the skirt to the side of her shorts. The the coat of corse helped cover her as well. It took about 20 minutes of very quick snapping, it was freezing outside!! But she was a trooper and I got some fun pics out of the bunch, she on the other hand got to eat the sucker!
